The Silver Ninja™ is now The Silver Ninja® hooray!

Big news everyone!

I am now the proud owner of The Silver Ninja® trademark.

Since 2001 I had been googling The Silver Ninja to make sure that it never showed up in the search results. Though there has been a movie called “The Deadly Silver Ninja” that’s under copyright and my wording is specifically “The Silver Ninja.” The process to get the trademark was fairly simple, the difficulty was in time and payment.

I used the wonderful https://www.trademarks411.com to register my trademark.

At first, when I bought their service I was concerned that my money went out the window. I was wondering why I hadn’t heard back from them after several months. Then, I received an e-mail that listed ALL OF THE THINGS using “The” “Silver” “Ninja” in their trademark terminology. The list was incredibly daunting to say the least, I couldn’t even read everything.

Then I received an e-mail that had me fill out some forms which could be signed digitally. The rest was taken care of by them.

When I was rejected for the approval process, they e-mailed me again and offered to resubmit. There is a fee to pay when you resubmit, but again, they take care of everything for you. I also received a phone call to confirm that I could sign the papers promptly, which I did.

Several months later . . . the trademark is mine.

The trademark is actually not THAT expensive. Overall I spent under $1,000 dollars. I would have spent less money had I known that I needed two books for sale. Probably around $500-600 dollars in total.

So what does owning a trademark mean?

All it means is that if there is a facebook page called “The Silver Ninja” or if there is a product that has the same name. I could tell that company to change their name so that customers aren’t confused about what product they are buying. Basically, I’ve increased my chances of winning a court case if god forbid something were to happen. I’m hoping that The Silver Ninja could become a brand on its own, so having a trademark will really help avoid any legal issues and imposters.

FYI

If you decide to apply for a trademark. Please remember that there are imposters out there that will send you invoices and fees saying that you owe money to register the trademark. THROW THESE AWAY NO MATTER HOW LEGIT THEY APPEAR! Trademarks 411 and the USPTO itself will warn you of these scams ahead of time.

Will be posting another excerpt this month, so come on back when it’s time!
