So with the upcoming election taking place this 1st Tuesday of November 2012; I thought it’d be fitting to talk about the ‘other’ element nestled within my soon to be released novel. (I can call it novel now because it’s almost published, yay!)
The politics, oh yes… the politics.
DISCLAIMER: I do not advocate, support, endorse or discuss politics in online forums, social media, or even in person with other people unless I know they can be civil. We all know politics are a hot topic, and some people love to talk about it endlessly without producing any results. Hence, you will never catch me discussing political topics with anyone in public.
With that out of the way, let me explain what I did with politics in The Silver Ninja.
Imagine if you will, the so-called “villain” of The Silver Ninja is not a villain at all, but a character who believes that the ends justify the means. We’ve heard this term before, but the villain is atypical from most, thus changing the definition drastically.
For instance, what the villain stands for is not the destruction of mankind, greed to steal the world’s wealth, nor the wiping out of the human race. Quite the opposite, the villain wishes to give power back to the people–YOU the people. The villain came from a life of “poverty” with the ironic twist being that he was just middle class, albeit low middle class.
The villain–like most Americans now, suffered those panic attacks of wondering when the next bill was going to be paid. Praying that the next paycheck would deposit into the account in time, for the credit card bill to be paid on-time. While also having the burden of having to put food on the plate. Coming from this background, the antagonist was born. And in Silver’s world, where pure evil is a rarity, the reader may or may not question their alliance.
The villain wants the people to regain control of their country. To stop pandering to corporations and start serving the interest of its constituents. He doesn’t want the 1% to rule the world, he wants the 99% to take back what is theirs.
So when the protagonist and antagonist clash, it may not be so simple to side with the heroine. I chose this grey area because I wanted above all else, to create a believable, realistic world with a side of fantasy.
I hope you will enjoy reading the book when it finally becomes available… soon.™
