The Road to Happiness

The road to happiness is not a straight line, but a rocky and dangerous path full of pitfalls, and snakes, and mountains that soar into the clouds impeding your destination. And then there are times when the path isn’t full of danger, it’s serene and mellow, with no creatures to lurk around the corners. It is the route that everyone loves to travel, but there is only one problem…

It goes the wrong way.

and if this path is followed, it will only lead to one place, regret.

Well I just discovered only a few days ago, that I have been walking the wrong way without even realizing it. Which is odd, because I always thought I knew where I wanted to go. How did this happen? Well, like most people, it turns out that I only had a vague idea of where I wanted to go but never knew where I wanted to be. And what happens when you’re not really sure where you’re going, but you have an idea?

You get lost.

I thought that the career I had chosen was the one I wanted to pursue. So obviously, when I got the opportunity to work in a place related to my field, I jumped at the chance. Yet a few weeks into the new workplace, I made a horrifying discovery. This career–was in fact, not what I wanted at all.

Is the old saying true? “The grass is greener on the other side.” Well… I refuse to believe that. You know why? Because I’ve read plenty of success stories about people who are quite content with the life they live. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.

“I can’t believe I’m getting paid to do this.”

Who doesn’t want to be able to say that? So you can imagine how disappointed I was, when I discovered that my new opportunity wasn’t quite the right match for me. Perhaps it’s life’s way of saying that I will never find a job where I am truly happy.

Ha! Yeah right. This blog isn’t about being depressed and “Oh, woe is me.” It’s about taking charge of your life and steering it in the right direction. What is The Silver Ninja about? It’s about a woman who gets sh** done. This same philosophy applies to all of you who are reading this.

Here’s the reality. You can find pure happiness and you can certainly make it yours. Sure, professionally I’m not happy, but I am still grateful for the things that have happened in my life. I’m grateful for the people who love me and support me; I’m grateful to have been able to successfully publish a book that I own all the rights to; and I’m grateful to share my life experiences with you all. Though there are only a few of you, the lack of numbers doesn’t make you readers any less important.

But do you know what’s truly ironic? Remember that career opportunity I told you about earlier? In fact… just a few sentences ago?

Well it caused me a great deal of stress and anxiety. But I’m grateful that it happened regardless.

Why? The reason is simple. “If you prevent all errors, you prevent the truth.” What does that mean, Wilmar? Stop with these riddles!

It means that if I didn’t quit my job; venture out of my comfort zone; and experience the next level of stress; I would not have realized that I do, in fact, know what it is that I need to be happy. This so-called, “mistake” in career choice has actually put my blurry dreams into razor sharp focus. Now I have direction, now I have a goal, and I know how to do it.

Which brings me to the most important part of my blog and one that you, dear reader, should pay close attention to.

Are -you- happy with where your life is going? And if you’re not…

Why aren’t you doing something about it?

Feel free to reply in the comment box below or post on Facebook/Tumblr/Twitter or even link me to your blog.

Be well readers!

Oh, and one more thing.

Here’s a little snippet from The Silver Ninja™ 2: Indoctrination

ROUGH DRAFT:

[Warning: SIRCA failure imminent, commencing emergency repairs.] The text flashed in top center of Cindy’s HUD. If she activated the repairs now, the suit would temporarily shut down and revert her back into regular Cindy.

“Override,” she said to the suit.

[Warning: if you cancel this process, you will lose SIRCA medical&armor protection.]

“Override dammit!”

Emergency repairs canceled.

Now she had to face the enemy without a super suit to protect her.
